Rwanda’s Ambitious 4G Rollout Begins at Transform Africa Summit

At the current summit in Kigali, Hamadoun Toure, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, referred to Kagame as “the digital president” as Rwanda’s $140 million deal with Korea Telecom will deliver 4G LTE internet to 95% of citizens within three years, reports Wired.

While only 8.3 percent of Rwanda’s 12 million citizens are presently connected to the internet, Kagame expects this to change very soon. Furthermore, Minister for ICT and Youth Jean Philbert Nsengimana demonstrated how much faster 4G is compared to 3G in a side-by-side test, with 4G reaching speeds of 90Mbps and the 3G network managing only around 0.5Mbps.
