Authorities of the national public transport agency, Onatracom say that the agency is hopeful to resume its duties after having faced problems of accumulated debts and mismanagement, according to Onatracom boss, Major John Bosco Muranyi.
Officials say that there is a plan to work with the government and private sector in order to resolve the problems.
During the presentation of the Auditor General’s report of 2012/2013 on ONATRACOM, to the parliament, the law makers suggested that agency should be realistic and find ways of resolving its problems.
ONATRACOM is governed by the LAW N°53/2013 of 28/06/2013 establishing the National Public Transport Authority main responsibilities to promote public transportation, to make less isolated different regions of the country with the aim of facilitating the population in accessing developmental activities.
In 2013, the Rwanda’s state-owned public transport company was said to be placed under the care of private managers in the last attempt to rescue it losses averaging Rwf35 million monthly.
