Swedish Investors Eye Regional Aviation Sector

The region aviation that has seen positive growth outlook is likely to receive a boost from Swedish investors, a signal that the region striving to lower logistics and transport costs to ease business would achieve its ambition.

The air transport due to its nature of setup that is characterized by high operational costs mainly jet fuel as well as taxes has not been attracting investors compared to other sectors.

A delegation that is mounted by representatives from Sweden’s profiled corporates such the Swedish Export Credit Guarantee Board- EKN, Eltel Networks Scania East Africa, Assa Abloy ,ACR Aviation Capacity Resources, Gunnebo, Safegate Group, Auto Sueco (Volvo).

A statement that quoted Amb. Inger Ultvedt of the Swedish foreign affairs ministry said that the investors will discuss with their counterparts in Rwanda to exploit opportunities that would be vital for the delegation to invest in mainly in Aviation.

“This trade delegation is a hands-on expression of Sweden’s wish to further intensify and broaden our bilateral collaboration and trade in the region,” Amb. Ultvedt said in a statement.

The delegation follows the recent health care delegation from Sweden that visited the country to ascertain the opportunities in the health care systems in Rwanda, a vital approach that would further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Experts are optimistic that as the country now looks at tapping into being a logistics hub for the region, such an investment would be an added muscle to realize its ambitions that are looked at to spur its growth to middle income by 2020.

For example, Maria Hakansson believes that the expertise the investors and experts have would provide solutions that can be vital in the country’s ambition to build the new Airport at Bugesera, seen to boost the country’s increasing air traffic.
