After the management of Nyanza district decided to dismiss street vendors who were selling roasted meat, roasted maize, cakes, juices and other things that were sold on travelling vehicles, travelers are happy that it saved them from poor hygiene.
Some people who used to travel Kigali- Butare route say they were worried if the sold goods met health standards. As Niyirora said, “you would find the roasted meat they were selling full of dust and flies flying all over the place yet people would fight for them.”

We had a meeting with those who used to be street vendors on Wednesday 23rd.Nov.2011. They said that they stopped vending because of the decision that was made by Nyanza district in a way of maintaining health. They decided to ask fine from the vendor and above that to throw away what he is selling.
The common place for vendors was where they call ‘HAJJI’s’ place and where taxes are parked commonly known as ‘Arrete’ where you would find jerry cans of milk and other kinds of foods to be sold.
